The scanner came very well packaged. I was expecting it to be bigger, but surprised at how compact it is as you can see in my picture. The scanner was easy to hook up and the interface was easy to use. I was able to scan a couple of documents quickly, without much fuss.

I recently purchased a Xerox Phaser laser printer which was registered, easy to setup, and works exactly as expected. So I then decided to purchase a Xerox Portable Duplex scanner expecting a similar result.
Boy was I wrong!! First, right out of the box the scanner was defective. The LCD screen located in the machine would not turn on despite the fact that the scanner was powered on. This screen provides you with all the settings you’ll need in order to scan to folders or destinations other than your printer. For example, to pdf folder, archive, email, iCloud etc., I was only allowed to scan to my printer!
So I called Xerox technical support and literally the first question they asked, not my name, was “what’s your serial number?” No greeting, no name of whom I was speaking with, just “what’s your serial number?”. I gave them the number that was stamped on the machine, and the one that was printed on the side of the box the scanner came in. The response was “we don’t recognize that serial number, and can’t provide you technical support service.” Why is this important? What they were telling me was that without this number I didn’t have a legal right to the 1 year warranty attached to this scanner. Xerox suggested I return it to Amazon and ask for a replacement, which I did. I received my replacement the next day.
This time around I chose to install the software not on my PC desktop but instead on my Apple laptop. Both Xerox and Amazon advertised the Xerox Portable Duplex Scanner as being PC/MAC compatible. Guess what, it’s not! Again I called Xerox to get technical support with troubleshooting my new problem. I couldn’t believe that Xerox once again was not recognizing or acknowledging the serial number attached to the replacement scanner. I immediately called Amazon and complained about this serial number issue I was having with Xerox. I was placed on hold while Amazon customer service contacted Xerox to discuss and resolve the issue. The response that Xerox gave Amazon was that the serial number was not in their system, and therefore could not provide the technical support. This happened twice with this product. Amazon’s response was that they would issue me a refund when the replacement was returned.
The bigger picture here is that if this scanner had failed at some point beyond the 30 day return window, I would have been left with a scanner that Xerox would not support because the serial numbers are not recognized by Xerox. Just imagine spending $250 on this scanner, and not being able to return it to Amazon, nor receive the 1 year warranty you expected! I would not recommend this purchase based on my nightmarish experience with Xerox, not to mention all the wasted hours on the phone, and trips to the UPS store to return both scanners. Do not waste your time on this product.

At first I was concerned this scanner would not fit my needs as it is quite small. However, once I set it up and changed the resolution to a high quality the scanner worked great. The con is that it is slow to scan if you want high quality. Also, sometimes if I haven’t used it in a while and go to scan, it says there is an error and I have to re-scan it a few times for it to take. I scan anywhere from 1 to 15 sheets of paper at a time.
